In my hay day we would be tramping (hiking) every second weekend and most of our holidays were spent with a pack on our back – sweaty, sore, exhausted and blissfully happy. In New Zealand we are blessed with gorgeous national parks, breathtaking scenery and excellent walkways. When a Kiwi says they are “getting away from it all” it really means that. You can tramp to areas where you never see another soul, stay in a backcountry hut (nothing but a fireplace and bunkbed) and wake to the sound of birdsong (and your fellow tramper snoring!).

I am very happy to report that my eldest son has also inherited his parents genes and this Easter we will venturing to a well known tramping track “The Heaphy Track” . This is a walk down memory lane for me because I was a similar age when I tramped The Heaphy with my parents. As strange as it might seem, I’m looking forward to sore feet, smelly tent and being able to burn off some Easter treats!
