I’ve always been a dreamer from an early age, but as I got older I began to really remember and enjoy my dreams. In college I took a class on how to teach myself to remember and control my dreams. Here are a few things we learned:

Can’t Remember Your Dream:
Start keeping a dream journal. When you wake up write down anything you can remember, big or small, about your dream. Maybe it’s a person, a color, or a location and that’s it. Keep writing down these simple notes, by about a week or two you’ll start remembering more about your dreams and soon you’ll be able to remember colors, smells, conversations, and maybe even different feelings.

Control Your Dream:
After you get good at remembering your dreams another level of dreaming is being able to control or change your dream without waking up. For example, maybe someone is chasing you, all of a sudden you remember this is a dream and you stop turn around and start chasing them. Recently, I made a decision to jump off of a cliff, which got me to a place I didn’t want to be. Instead of waking up or getting frustrated I was able to control my dream and put myself back up on the cliff and start over.

Well now that I’m 39 weeks pregnant my dreams have gotten more interesting and plentiful. I find myself waking up laughing; sometimes they are so funny I have to wake my husband up to share my dream and many times the two of us will be laughing at 2am. Talk about waking up on the right side of the bed. Many of my dreams are too strange to share on this blog. However, on a personal note, I lost both my mother and father within the past five years, but I have been lucky to have some amazing dreams that include them; I even have conversations with them. In a few dreams I’ve even gotten to hug or touch my mom and could feel the embrace. It’s like getting more time and memories with each of them. This has been such a blessing and gift. Therefore, it is why I encourage everyone to try and remember your dreams. Plus dreams are just good old fashion fun. So start remembering your dreams…
