One of the magic things about New Zealand is we are a small country with a wonderfully accessible coastline, fantastic for surfer types like me. You can travel from coast to coast searching for the perfect wave.

Last weekend I had to be in Rotorua on Saturday (more about that tomorrow) so a road trip was in order, the surf forecast dictated a little trip over the Rimatuka hill, north to Rotorua, then on to the Cormandel and back home.

This resulted in a 1600km drive on every back road possible, 4 tanks of gas, hundreds of two house country towns, a broken wetsuit, snapped surfboard fin, 2 perfect left handers and very stoked surfers.
