Some of us are photographers. Some of us are pretty good, but not taking photos to pay the bills. For those of you out there that are getting paid for photography, this article will be of interest. In this day and age of the internet, images are passed around on the world in an instant. The internet has been a useful tool for photographers to get exposure of their work worldwide. But, as with any tool it has a downside. Anyone with less than stellar character can hop on the internet, find a photo they like, download it and use it without permission. Most artists don’t like their work used without their permission, photographers are no different. 

The most common way to attempt to prevent people from using photos without permission is to put a digital watermark across and image. It generally works but ruins the experience of seeing a photo in all its glory.

Canon has recently applied for a patent for Iris Registration Mode – Biological Copyright Metadata. A yet to be produced camera will take a scan of the photographer’s iris and embed that information into any photo taken with that camera by that user. Pretty slick.
