Since we are all consumed watching the Olympics this week, I thought it would be interesting to share some random facts on the Olympic host, China.
- The population of China is 1.3 billion, approximately 20% of the world’s population.
- Paper was first invented in China 105 AD. Paper, The Compass, Explosive Powder and Printing are considered the ‘Four Great Inventions of China’. They are also credited with having invented the wheel and the calendar, and more importantly ice cream!
- According to economists, China will become the world’s wealthiest nation by the year 2012.
- The Great Wall of China is NOT visible from outer space. It’s too thin. It is just a myth that it can be seen. The only man-made structures visible from space are: The Pyramids of Giza and the Hoover Dam.
