confessions of an advertising man by david ogilvy
Posted by timezoneone
David Ogilvy was an advertising genius. Regarded as the father of modern advertising, Ogilvy was responsible for some of the most memorable advertising campaigns ever created. Confessions of an Advertising Man is a must read for anyone looking to educate themselves further about “old school” advertising. It is an easy to read book that analysis all of the Ogilvy concepts, tactics, and techniques.
There is a purpose behind this book. David Ogilvy wrote this book for three reasons – 1. To attract more business. 2. To demonstrate value for a public offering 3. To make himself better known in the business world.
My favorite quote: ‘A good advertisement is one which sells the product without drawing attention to itself’.
If you aspire to be a good advertiser, David Ogilvy’s Confessions of an Advertsing Man is a must-read. It gets the Folksey Book of the Week!

I don’t think you could not include David Ogilvy on any kind of advertising list. When it comes to advertising, his name is everywhere, and for good reason. It’s amazing that over 40 years later, his book is still relevant. That’s some good writing!
