Posted by timezoneone under New Zealand
Wellington, New Zealand like most New Zealand cities can sometimes feel like they are overshadowed by their larger North Island brother city of Auckland, but apparently this hasn’t stopped Wellington showing their city to the world… for a city considered small or as the Kiwis put it “wee” on the world stage they can actually pack a lot of punch!
Wellington, New Zealand unbeknowed to many people is the capital of New Zealand, the country’s second largest urban area and the most populous national capital in Oceania. Wellington is New Zealand’s political centre, housing Parliament and the head offices of all government ministries and departments, plus the bulk of the foreign diplomatic missions based in New Zealand and Wellington has the 12th best quality of living in the world.
But for all of these wonderful facts the quality of the Notable Wellingtonians is something that is quite astonishing. Wellington’s has in recent times produced some world renowned entertainment celebrities such as:
Peter Jackson - Oscar-winning film-maker
Russell Crowe - Oscar-winning actor
Jemaine Clement - musician, member of Flight of the Conchords
Bret McKenzie - musician, member of Flight of the Conchords
All of this has lead to Wellington hosting one the biggest and most successful outdoor music festival in New Zealand history. Over the past Easter Weekend Wellington hosted the Rock2Wellington which has brought some of the greatest legendary bands to Wellington; it what can be best described as “like stepping back in time, to a little decade we all like to call the 80s”.. The list of musicians is a who’s who of the music world: Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Whitesnake and the easter weekend crowds were shown one of the greatest shows of their lives.
The success of this festival we can only hope is the tip of the ice berg for New Zealand on the tourism and entertainment world stage. Well done wee Wellington you have helped show New Zealand to the WORLD!
