the big oe
Posted by timezoneone under New Zealand
The OE is a New Zealand term meaning ‘Overseas Experience’. It refers to a rite of passage common among young New Zealanders to travel somewhere far away (usually London) to live and work for a year or two, interspersed with trips to Europe. It’s a great way to see the world, and experience different cultures.
A few of the zoners have benefitted from the OE, learning the pleasure of commuting by tube and experiencing a northern hemisphere summer (it’s weird to have summer without christmas/new years in the middle!). Some have even done a ‘reverse’ OE, coming from Britain or the US to live in New Zealand. So between us we have been pretty much everywhere.
Even TimeZoneOne itself has donned its backpack and headed off for a taste of the big wide world. After a few years of the traditional oe, pulling pints in London and squeezing in a few clients, TZ1 felt there was something else to be gained from the OE. So it set off for Chicago and hasn’t looked back, impressing many clients and showing how ‘the kiwi way’ can work anywhere, not just in New Zealand.
